The sandwiches (plus the ham and cheese ones) can be eaten at any time of the day: for breakfast, lunch, an afternoon snack or dinner. It can be combined in different ways: with different bread, add condiments or vegetables. It can always be a good and quick idea to get out of trouble.

Every time I passed by the Brioche Doreé I was curious how many people could consume a simple sandwich, at what time of the day it could be done and what texture and taste it could have. This time I will review Le Grand de Jamón y Queso, a ham sandwich with a mix of 3 cheeses on rustic bread; a meal made by the renowned French food chain.

First impressions

At first glance it may seem like a common dish like any other. The crust of the bread has a texture similar to that of Arabic bread but larger and fluffier. You can see the filling of the sandwich and you can see the quality of the products they use. It is also received as a kind of mild heating.

Examination

The aforementioned company has several branches and I was at the Alto Avellaneda Shopping. Among the varieties of "sanguchitos" they produce, I was more convinced by the ham and cheese one because for a snack I think it may be the best option to eat something salty.

Other savory things can be the ham and cheese croissant, and the croque monsieur. Sometimes I prefer to eat a salty meal for snack so as not to get cloying with sweet products, especially being French sweets that are usually rich par excellence.

Pros and cons

The pros of "Le Grand" are that it is rich and visually and tastefully appreciated. The combination of the three hot cheeses, added to the crusty bread, gives it a particular flavor that no other simple sandwich I have tried in my life. Also, being simple, it can be combined with any local drink.

The cons are that it is an expensive meal for what it contains ($600 pesos/£3,97) and what it is, you can only have a "combo" with a soda and the ham seems to be of a lower quality than the cheeses, highlighting the product . It is also a food that is too simplistic for a food chain the size of Brioche Doreé to have available.

Final punctuation

In my 25 years of trying different types of foods, such as the aforementioned food, I don't think it's possible for a product that is rich but peculiarly strange (and extraordinarily simple) to be sold at an excessive price. Being a French gastronomy company, it is not common for them to make this type of food knowing that they can specialize in other things such as a crême brûlée or the famous baguttes.

The final score for "Le Grand" is 4.5/10.
