Argentine custom: soft meat empanadas

Empanadas are a typical food of Argentines, a meal that is already a habit in the houses of this South American country. However, despite the varieties that exist of them, the most common are those with ham and cheese, and those with soft meat.

All Argentines and foreigners who have lived in the country for a long time have eaten an empanada, regardless of the taste with which we consume them. In the north, south and in the capital, Buenos Aires, there are differences in how to make the soft meat. Instead, this gastronomic review will take into account the empanadas of the named taste of the Costumbres Argentinas brand.

First impressions

Like all (or the vast majority) empanadas made by companies with several locations have a more industrial appearance than one made by a pasta factory or one from a restaurant. It has a similar format to any meat empanada but without that characteristic repulgue. At first glance I feel that I can get very dirty as it releases a little of the liquid from the meat.

Examination

After a long day, I took the train and returned to the capital. I was hungry and didn't know what to buy for dinner until I stopped by a Costumbres Argentinas store in downtown. I had never entered this company but this time it caught my attention.

I went in and at the checkout I ordered three soft meat empanadas. I paid, waited a few minutes and took them. Since I was hungry, I ate them as I walked home. Which I was able to do thanks to the bag they give you when your order is delivered.

Pros and cons

Pros: each unit costs 69 argentinian pesos (so it's a cheap and reasonable price), you can feel the meat and the juice gives it a better taste than if it didn't have it. It is also a meal that comes out quickly and can be eaten anywhere: while on the move, in the square or at home.

Cons: As it has a lot of juice, it easily to get dirty. The quality of the meat is not ideal either, but it's cheap. Thanks to being very industrial, it loses the essence of the empanadas, the reason for them.

Final score

Due to the qualities mentioned in the previous point, the note that I give to this food from Argentine Customs is 6. A note that specifies that the price-quality is good, but that it could be repeated from time to time.
